City of Columbia Approves South Garden Streetscape Enhancement Project

The City of Columbia is pleased to announce the approval of the South Garden Streetscape Enhancement Project!

The streetscape project began as an FY 2019-2020 strategic plan initiative. In 2020, Regan Smith was hired as project engineer to prepare conceptional, renderings, following from multiple public input meetings with stakeholders in the arts district. In 2021, concept drawings were completed and the preparation of construction documents began and were completed in 2022.

The City received bids for construction in September 2022, and City Council approved a construction bid from Adams Contracting at the October 13th City Council meeting. The project will include installation of a streetscape on South Garden Street in the Columbia Arts District from the intersection at Carmack Blvd to Depot Street. The project will take one year to complete. This is the largest investment in the Columbia Arts District to date.
Mayor Chaz Molder stated, “I am thrilled about the South Garden Street streetscape project moving forward because it once again evidences our city’s commitment to the arts, and to the Arts District. But, it also evidences the fact that we have a strategic plan that we follow, in this case the Arts District Master Plan, and we implement those plans. This particular streetscape project was the culmination of a community wide, community driven and community input process. And, the beneficiary will be our community as a whole.”
