The City of Columbia was presented with the Tennessee Municipal League’s Excellence in Green Leadership Award at the TML’s 84th Annual Conference on July 23, 2024, in Knoxville, TN.
The award highlights Columbia’s commitment to environmentally resilient and green infrastructure. Notable projects include the conversion of 6,000 streetlights to LED bulbs, resulting in annual savings of $450,000. The city has also made plans to install new EV charging stations.
Additionally, the city’s wastewater treatment plant, originally constructed in the 1970s, has undergone significant upgrades. These include a new energy-efficient HVAC system for the administration building and the installation of LED lighting throughout the facility, both of which have substantially reduced energy consumption and operational costs.
The city has also recently broken ground on a new wastewater treatment facility that will include state-of-the-art environmentally friendly technology.
