The Columbia Mayor’s Youth Council is pleased to announce the council is hosting a CMYC Toy Drive to benefit various local non-profits during the holiday season. The toy drive will begin Tuesday, November 16, 2021, and end Monday, December 13, 2021.
New, unwrapped toys and books will be accepted and can be dropped off Monday – Friday during school hours in a provided drop box at the following high school locations: Columbia Academy (high school office – rotunda at the Lower School), Mount Pleasant High School Lobby, Spring Hill High School Lobby, and Zion Christian Academy Lobby. Donations will also be accepted at Columbia City Hall Lobby (700 N Garden St, Columbia, TN, 38401) from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. The donations will be supporting four local non-profits, which are, The King’s Daughters’ School, The Pregnancy Center, The Family Center, and The Boys and Girls Club.
“I am so proud of the Mayor’s Youth Council, not just for their leadership and initiative they have taken all on their own, but for their act of selflessness during the holiday season. Many kids in Columbia will receive gifts this Christmas, who might not have otherwise, thanks to this Mayor’s Youth Council Toy Drive,” stated Mayor Chaz Molder. Molder continued, “This Council has quickly become a cohesive group of young people who are committed to helping, and improving our community, one act of kindness, and one example of leadership at a time. I couldn’t be more pleased, and I couldn’t be more optimistic about our future, thanks to our Mayor’s Youth Council.”
The City of Columbia established the Columbia Mayor’s Youth Council in the spring of 2021. This youth council allows students to connect with other peers in their community who want to make a difference through planning community events, partnering with local organizations, raising awareness, and connecting with future generations of leaders.
CMYC Chair Keyton Kodatt stated, “I am so excited to finally roll out our council’s first service project of many that will positively impact Columbia all while promoting youth engagement in our city. Being able to have such a personal relationship with local organizations is extremely valuable to our council and we are extremely proud of the connections we’ve been able to form with these nonprofits.” Kodatt went on to say, “Our members have been extremely fervent in their efforts to coordinate this drive, and I know that this is only the start of a great youth movement in our city that will last for years to come.”
