Columbia Police Officer Yates has been named the department’s Officer of the Month for June after solving two aggravated assault cases that happened within 90 minutes of each other.
According to the Columbia Police Department, Officer Yates responded to both incidents on June 15. While the cases initially appeared unrelated, her knowledge of the area, attention to detail, and follow-up investigation led her to identify all of the suspects involved.
Police said Officer Yates obtained surveillance video, interviewed each suspect, secured confessions, and recovered weapons, leading to multiple criminal charges.
The department said her work demonstrated thorough investigative efforts and highlighted the professionalism, dedication, and commitment expected of Columbia police officers.
