The Columbia Police Department marked a milestone Friday as two longtime officers stepped into new leadership roles during a promotion ceremony attended by city officials, colleagues, family, and friends.

Assistant Chief Jason Dark and Captain Brad Ribley were formally recognized as they assumed their new positions. City Manager Tony Massey, Council Member Cheryl Seacrest, and Vice Mayor Randy McBroom were among those present, along with retired and current department members.

Assistant Chief Dark brings more than 28 years of service to the role. His wife, Leia Dark, and his mother pinned his Assistant Chief badge, while Chief Haywood pinned his collar brass.

Captain Ribley also has more than 28 years with the department. His fiancé, Jennifer Dalton, pinned his captain’s badge, and his son, Nathan Ribley, along with Captain Ribley’s mother, pinned his collar brass. Captain Ribley will oversee the Investigations Division, which includes Vice and Narcotics.

The department congratulated both leaders on their promotions and thanked them for their continued dedication to serving the Columbia community.
