Columbia Police Names Officer of the Month for June 2024

Chief Jeremy Alsup awarded Officer Billy Hughes with Officer of the Month for June 2024.

On June 18th, 2024, Ofc. Billy Hughes responded to Granada Drive in reference to a stolen vehicle. During his investigation, Ofc. Billy Hughes spoke with a witness that saw the offender driving the vehicle traveling on Santa Fe Pike. Officer Hughes gathered a physical description of the suspect, including the clothing the suspect was wearing.

Several hours later, Ofc. Billy Hughes located the stolen vehicle abandoned in the parking lot of a local church. Ofc. Hughes was able to obtain video footage of the offender exiting the vehicle, matching the description given by the witness.

Due to Ofc. Billy Hughes’s investigative work he was able to identify, locate, and arrest the offender for motor vehicle theft. Because of his efforts, he has been named the Columbia Police Department’s Officer of the Month for June 2024.
