Columbia Police Department has named Officer Wiser Officer of the month for October 2024.
On October 5th, 2024, Officer Wiser responded to a residence in reference to a suicidal female. The female had locked herself inside a bedroom and was possibly cutting herself.
Information Officer Wiser received was the female feared the police and was suffering from PTSD.
Officer Wiser was able to establish contact with the female through the bedroom door and build a rapport. This led to the female exiting from the bedroom and agreeing to be transported to the hospital.
Due to Officer Wiser’s actions and her applying her training, this incident was resolved without injury and did not require additional resources.
