The Maury County Board of Education and Maury County Public Schools announced the appointment of Lisa Ventura as Interim Superintendent of Maury County Public Schools, effective March 2, 2022. Mrs. Ventura filled the position of outgoing Superintendent Michael Hickman.

Mrs. Ventura began her career in education as a high school biology and chemistry teacher. Mrs. Ventura then moved to Alternative Learning Programs and taught multiple subjects to students remanded to an Alternative Learning Center for Zero Tolerance Offenses. This experience caught the eye of the district’s Special Education Supervisor, who recruited Ventura to work in the Severe Behavior Intervention Classroom. Ventura went back to school and obtained a Special Education Endorsement, helping teach students with disabilities, and then moved into an itinerant Behavior Facilitator Role. In 2005 Ventura worked for the TN Department of Education as a consultant in the Division of Special Education and a Fiscal Management consultant. Ventura then served as the Special Education and Federal Programs Supervisor in Marshall County. Ventura more recently became the Director of Special Education at Maury County Public Schools in 2012 and is currently the Director of Special Populations with English Learners & Students with Disabilities for Maury County Schools.

“I am humbled and honored,” Ventura stated following her appointment to the role. “If there is one thing that I’m passionate about, it is this county’s 13,000 students!”

When asked about her family, Mrs. Ventura stated, “I am happily married to a game warden, Mark, and together we own a small farm with Hereford/Angus/Black Baldy cows, donkeys, chickens, and five dogs (but don’t tell them they are dogs)!”

Following the vote to appoint Mrs. Ventura, Maury County Board of Education Chairman Michael Fulbright stated, “I am excited to have Mrs. Ventura on board during this time. I look forward to her leadership and knowledge to support this interim role.”
