A significant transportation improvement is moving forward in Columbia, with state officials backing a long-term plan to upgrade a busy and growing roadway.

The City of Columbia announced that a major project along Bear Creek Pike (SR-99) has been included in the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s 10-Year Project Plan through the Statewide Partnership Program. The planned improvements will stretch from Nashville Highway (SR-6/US-31) to Interstate 65.

According to the city, the project is aimed at increasing roadway safety, reducing traffic congestion, and improving overall connectivity for residents, businesses, and emergency services in the area.

TDOT has committed up to $180 million toward the effort. Because of the project’s size and scope, the state agency will oversee delivery while working in coordination with the City of Columbia.
