Emil Nava visited Mount Pleasant High School to talk about the art of music videos and filmmaking with audio-video production and performing arts students. Mr. Nava had recently been at the Mount to shoot the Ed Sheeran/feat. Taylor Swift video where assistant principal Eric Hughes coordinated a visit for the world-famous music video director to come to talk with students the following week.
Mr. Nava was incredibly humble and generous with his time answering every question from students and teachers as well as chatting one on one with students after his talk. Nava has directed over 100 music videos for globally influential musicians such as Jennifer Lopez, Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez, Calvin Harris, and Post Malone whose Rockstar video has had over 1 billion views.
His message of staying humble through the highs and lows and making sure you have a solid career foundation, in his case culinary arts, so that one can really go after their dreams on their terms was powerful to both students and faculty as MPHS is at the forefront of preparing students to be workforce ready while concurrently offering a wide range of visual and performing arts opportunities to all students.
It was an incredible authentic learning experience for students created by the brilliance and generosity of Mr. Nova and the understanding of Mr.Hughes of the power of connecting students with world-class practitioners of their craft.
