A hometown kid will get his AAA debut on home turf this evening. That is right, when the Nashville Sounds take the field this evening, they will start with Ethan Small on the mound. Small is a Jackson, Tn. native and played High School ball at Lexington High School in Lexington, Tn. He took his talents to Starkville, MS. at Mississippi State for college.
Unfortunately, his freshman year was derailed as he had to have Tommy John Surgery and missed the season. He came back the following year and got better leading to his breakout 2019 season. In 2019, Small earned SEC pitcher of the year after leading the NCAA in strikeouts.
He performed so well the Milwaukee Brewers took notice and drafted him in the first round of the MLB draft with pick number 28. The lefty pitcher is the 4th ranked prospect in the Milwaukee farm system. He faces off against the Charlotte Knights with the series even at 1-1.
Small is 2-2 this year. The left-hander is 2-2 with a 1.96 ERA and has 67 strikeouts in 41.1 innings.
