Bennie “Gene” Eugene Street, Sr., age 92, resident of Columbia, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Born on September 29, 1931, in Williamson County, Tennessee, Gene was the son of the late Lehman Street and the late Mattie Culberson Street.

Gene’s early years were marked by growing up with eleven brothers and sisters. He honorably served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his service, Gene established himself as a self-employed mason, cultivating his skills in the masonry business. He also found joy in working the land, raising tobacco and cattle.

Beyond his work, Gene embraced life’s simple pleasures. He found joy in the pages of books, the tranquility of fishing, the adventure of camping along the Tennessee River, and the exploration of travel. Gene’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, as he held steadfast to his Baptist beliefs.

Gene is survived by his life partner of over 34 years, Maidlin Prince, daughters, Maudie (Steve) Posey of Alabama, Frances Jean Kellar of Lewisburg, Betty Ann (Ray) Corse of Rally Hill, sons Bennie Eugene (Jaime) Street of Spring Hill, Jerry Lee (Patty) Street of Lynnville, stepchildren, Terry (Eddie) Jones of Lynnville and Chevy (Susan) White of Columbia, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jody Street; mother of his children, Betty Street; granddaughter, Sandy Brown and several brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Micky Buford officiating and with military honors provided by the United States Army.  Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Rock Springs Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  https://www.tnfunerals.com

Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends, Willie J. Street, Michael Street, Ricky Jones, Jay Jones, Walker Harris and Jody Street.
