Mr. Billy Cox Plant, Jr., 70, a long-time resident of Columbia, died Monday, February 21, 2022 just two days short of his 71st birthday at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Plant will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Terry Carroll and Wayne Simcox officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, concluding with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m.

Born on February 23, 1951 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Billy Cox Plant, Sr., and Mary Ann Owens Plant.

He married Linda Spivey Plant of Whitleyville, Tennessee on March 8, 1972 and they were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in just a few weeks.

Throughout his career he managed several propane companies, starting in Cookeville, Tennessee where he worked with his father at Elk Valley Gas Company and went on to start Plant Propane with his father in 1983. He was a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge #31, Nashville Al Menah Shriner Temple, and a former member of the Columbia Elks Lodge. He loved fishing, motorcycles and was an avid watch and knife collector. Mr. Plant was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda Plant of Columbia; son, Billy Cox Plant, III of Murfreesboro; daughter, Melissa Diane Plant (Timothy Wayne) King of Thompson’s Station; mother, Mary Ann Owens Plant of Columbia; grandsons, Gabriel Isaiah Plant of Murfreesboro and Tyler Wayne (Carey) King of Spring Hill; great-grandchild, Elle King of Spring Hill; sisters, Mary Lynn Plant Pogue of Columbia, Hazel (Wayne) Simcox of Cookeville and Hope (Terry) Carroll of Franklin; aunts, Linda (Glenn) Redman and Laura Crawford, uncles, Marvin Owens and James (Dottie) Owens; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will serve as pallbearers.
