Bobby Joe Fitzgerald, a cherished member of the community, passed away on March 14, 2023, at the age of 87.

Bobby was born on February 29, 1936, in Maury County, Tennessee, to Ben and Ruby Fitzgerald.

Bobby proudly served his country, in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged in 1962. He returned home to Tennessee, where he met and married the love of his life, Alice, in 1960. They were happily married for 63 years and had five children together: Mike (Brenda) Fitzgerald, Thomas Fitzgerald, Dianne (Mike) Darnell, Donna Burks, and Melinda (Guion) Manee.

Bobby had a passion for woodworking and was known for building miniature churches and log homes. His attention to detail was remarkable, and he took great pride in his work. Bobby loved working with cedar and spent countless hours in his workshop perfecting his craft. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening his tomatoes and okra, and tending to his yard, especially mowing it.

Bobby loved major holidays and the family gatherings that accompanied them. He was a true family man who never met a stranger. He had a contagious smile and a warm heart, and he always made everyone feel welcome. Bobby enjoyed visiting the Smoky Mountains with his family.

Bobby spent over 30 years at Columbia Construction, retiring as a Super Intendant. He was a devoted member of the Baptist Faith.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Alice; his children; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Ruby, and his sister, Francis Baker.

Visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Sunday, March 19, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with the service to follow at 2:00 PM. Reverend Eric Hogstrom will officiate the service. Bobby will be laid to rest in the Garden of Matthew at Polk Memorial Gardens at 3:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Derrick Darnell, Brandon Fitzgerald, Jonathan Fitzgerald, Nate Mortimer, Matthew Fitzgerald, and Marcus Fitzgerald.

Bobby will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community. His kindness, generosity, and love for others will always be remembered.
