Carol Ann LaFond, a mother, grandmother, and true friend, passed away on May 4, 2025, at the age of 79 in Columbia, TN.
Born on July 1, 1945, in Springfield, Illinois, Carol’s vibrant spirit and infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of the late Anthony Berger and Virginia Porter McKay and the devoted wife of the late David LaFond.
Carol’s memory is lovingly carried on by her adoring family. Her life was enriched by her grandchildren Teea (Robert) Shore, Debra Stachulski, Brandy (Brad) Bates, and Dennis (Julie) McKay Jr., as well as her great-grandchildren Brooklyn (McKenna) Rochelle, Hunter Ivins, Seth Stachulski, Tristin Ivins, Brian Ivins, Destiny Patterson, Caleb Stachulski, Ally Stachulski, Kiera Ivins, and Phoebe McKay. The recent joy of great-great-grandchildren Roman Love, Daisy Rogers, and the anticipated arrival of a baby girl added a delightful spark to her final years. Carol’s life was also shaped by the love of her siblings Earl McKay II, Thomas McKay, and Sally McKay.
She was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Dennis and Libby McKay, who she now joins in eternal rest.
A woman of many talents and determination, Carol’s career as an author saw her writings grace the pages of Newsweek and various other journals. Her voice, both literal and literary, was one of clarity, wit, and wisdom.
Her interests were as diverse as her talents. She possessed an unquenchable zest for life, relishing her trips to Tunica and embracing the adventure of travel, particularly her beloved cruises. A dedicated reader, she could often be found lost in the pages of a book, and her hands were rarely idle as she expressed her creativity through sewing, crocheting, and knitting. Carol’s culinary skills were legendary, especially when it came to her banana pudding, which was often declared the best by those lucky enough to taste it.
Her favorite saying is, “Stay Strong and Never Give Up! And Enjoy the Trip,” which perfectly encapsulates her approach to life. It was a mantra she lived by and one that inspired her family and friends to face challenges with courage and to find joy on every journey. Carol was known for her humor, often lightening the mood with her quick wit and playful banter.
Visitation with family and friends will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, until the time of service at noon. Entombment will immediately follow at Lewis County Memorial Gardens with Brother Joshua Adair officiating. https://www.adairfuneralservices.com
