Born Ella Carol Fitzgerald to Allen and Ella Fitzgerald on July 25th, 1947 in Columbia, Tennessee. Carol Armstrong passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024 surrounded by her daughters and closest friends.

Carol lived most of her life in Columbia, but did live a short period in Augusta, Georgia and Louisville, Kentucky. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 70 years and volunteered in lots of church places. Her favorite place was loving her babies in the Nursery/Sunday School.

Carol went to Elementary School at McDowell, Middle School at Whitthorne and High School at Central. She was a cheerleader in middle and high school and was also on the homecoming court and class treasurer at Central. Carol graduated in 1965. She went on to attend Tennessee Tech for 2 years where she received her business degree.

Carol worked for the Maury County Board of Education for over 40 years at Brown School and Riverside Elementary School. She retired in 2019. Carol also loved her Tennessee Vols!!

Carol is preceded in death by her parents Allen and Ella Fitzgerald and her late husband Maury Franklin Armstrong Sr.

Carol leaves behind all the wonderful memories she has with her family and friends.

She has two daughters: Tracey Tyler House and Kristen Michelle Tyler. Three precious grandchildren: Christopher Ryan Shaw, Zachary (Shelby) Joseph Shaw and Savannah Nicole House. She also has 3 precious great-grandchildren: Eleanor Nicole Shaw, Jace Maddox Shaw and Sienna Estela Oscura. Her sister Dianne Fitzgerald Hood and lots of loving cousins. Many special friends including three of the greatest friends a person could ever ask for: Tennie McKnight, Jean Parker and Debbie Fogle.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Columbia on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 4:00 pm. Family will visit with friends prior to the service from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
