Dorothy Mash Steward

Dorothy (Dot) Mash Steward, known to many as “Bopsey,” age 77, a resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Willie McLaurin & Pastor Joey Scruggs officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and again on Sunday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dot was born on July 20, 1944 and was the daughter of the late James (Jimmy) Mash & Eddie Mae Hendrix Mash. Dot was born and raised in Columbia. She was in the 1963 graduating class of Columbia Central High School. She attended Columbia State Community College and graduated from the first nursing program in 1969. Dot worked as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years, providing love and care for each of her patients throughout her career.

Dot loved Titan’s football, classic movies, reading, writing poetry, music, dancing, going to Goodwill, and yard sales. Her special place was spent with her husband on the beach or Tennessee River. In her pastime, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Her favorite thing was being with her great-nieces as they shared a special bond. She was a member of First Baptist Church (First Family) since the age of 14. She loved church and worshipping the Lord.

She married the love of her life, Joe Willard Steward on March 7, 1969. They had one daughter, Dottie Jo Waldrum.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Joseph Dylan Warrick

She is survived by a daughter, Dottie Jo (Dan) Waldrum, grandson, Gabriel (Olivia) Warrick, granddaughter, Catherine (Ryan) Fears, great-granddaughters, Arabella Jo Warrick, Raven Jade Warrick, dear sister, Ginger (Tim) Remer, nieces, Jessica (Tracy) Dunavant, Leslie( Bryan) Cole, great-nieces, Matti Martin, Aniston Cole, Joanna Cole, and a close cousin, Johnnie Sue Slaughter.

Pallbearers will be Dan Waldrum, Tim Remer, Ryan Fears, Gabe Warrick, Bryan Cole, and Alex Bolin. Honorary pallbearers will include Tracy Dunavant, Josh Ray, Mark Love.
