Douglas Gipson Tyree, age 91, a resident of Lewisburg, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Mike Bryan and Luke Gurchiek officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on February 2, 1934, in Marshall County, Doug was the son of the late Carl and Sarah Elizabeth Gipson Tyree. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a meteorologist at Tyson airport in Alcoa, Tennessee and Ben Epps Airport in Athens, Georgia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and had a gift for talking, especially local history and Civil War. Doug embodied a servant’s heart as he would help anyone in need. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he will be tremendously missed. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and a member of Antioch Church of Christ.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Marty (Jamie) Tyree, grandchildren, Clay (Melissa) Tyree, Megan (Luke) Gurchiek, Hunter (Lauren) Tyree, great grandchildren, Nathan Tyree, Emily Tyree, Grayson Gurchiek, Madison Tyree, Gabriel Gurchiek, and Stetson Tyree. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Dugger Tyree, son, Kyle Tyree, brother, Lewis Tyree, sisters, Una Carl A’Hern, Gwendolyn Ferguson, and Veatrice Reeves.
