Evelyn Liles Luckett, age 97, passed away at NHC-Maury Regional Transitional Care Center on Monday, October 30, 2023.

Evelyn Liles Luckett was born on December 19, 1925.

She was raised in the Mount Nebo Community near St. Joseph, Tennessee, Lawrence County. Her parents were Walter and Irene Liles. On April 26, 1947, she was married to James R. “Jimmy” Luckett. They cherished fifty-five and a half years together. To this union was born a “special” son, Daniel Ray “Danny Luckett”. Later years a daughter, Jamie Luckett Grooms, was adopted.

Evelyn was an active member of the Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a sixty-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, raising flowers, and gardening, writing family history books, music, and most of all she enjoyed family gatherings at her home.

Thanks to those four caregivers to both Danny and Evelyn, Woody and Donna Liles, Faye Woods, Frances Hill, and Deloris Daniel.

In addition to her husband, Evelyn is preceded in death by her son: Danny; her parents, brother: Haywood (Jewel) Liles; sister: Maymie (Harris) Hester: nephew: Woody (Donna) Liles; and niece: Bonnie (Steve) Moore.

Evelyn is survived by: daughter: Jamie (Josh) Grooms; grandchildren: Abby Jackson, Jaycee, Nicolas and Noah Grooms; nieces and nephews: Dwight (Denise) Liles, Patricia (Ralph) Culver, Cindy (Greg) Smith, Steve (Nancy) Moore, Eli Moore, Jean (John) Capo, Ann (Tom) Conner; and special sister-in-law: Betty Luckett.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 1:00 PM in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee with Mark King officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to the start of the service at Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. Evelyn will be laid to rest at McClain Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Allen, Billy Grimes, Jimmy Haywood, Josh Grooms, Greg Johnson, Mike Waugh, Ralph Culver, and Curtis Haywood.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dwight Liles, Steve Moore, Greg Smith, Daniel Johnson, Jimmy McClain, John Rainney, Odell Haywood, Bobby Haywood, Billy Bolton, Leon Ballinger, and all the members of the Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
