Gerry-Cornelius

Gerry Cornelius, age 67, a resident of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Gerry was born November 16, 1955, in Town Creek, Lawrence County, Alabama and was the son of the late Levi Cornelius and the late Martha Lane Cornelius.

He was one of nine children, and he spent his childhood working in the cotton and tobacco fields. He loved hard work from an early age and would often work on the farms where his family lived, to help his parents.

He was the first and one of the most dedicated employees of Keith Baker Homes, spending nearly forty years there. His true joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing with his family, watching ballgames for his grandchildren, and spending time on his farm.

He was a friend to many and known for his kindness and helpfulness. As anyone can attest, to know Gerry was to love him and call him a friend. He was known for always being there for others no matter the time or day. We should all strive to live a life like he did.

He is survived by his children, Christopher (Tiffany) Cornelius of Culleoka, TN and Shawna (Dwayne) Estes of Charlotte, TN; brother, L.D. (Portia) Cornelius of Summertown; sisters, Joannie Shively of Columbia, Patricia Blair of Columbia, Sandy Phillips of Lawrenceburg, Linda (Daniel) Bobo of Summertown, Kathy Cornelius of Lawrenceburg, and Shirley Graham of Columbia; grandchildren, Madison Estes, Anna Estes, Boone Estes, Jaxson Cornelius, and Harper Cornelius; and a very special friend, Beverly Calvert.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Cornelius.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 31st at 1:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home with Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Monday, January 30th from 4:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.
