Irene Jacqueline Murphy, born on August 10, 1956, in Hoboken, New Jersey, to the late John Meehan, passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2023, surrounded by her cherished family in a loving embrace in Columbia, Tennessee.

Described as a “tough cookie,” Irene’s strength and resilience were traits that defined her essence. She approached life with unwavering determination and an indomitable spirit, serving as an inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her commitment to persevering through life’s challenges touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Irene was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. Her family held a special place in her heart, and her devotion to them knew no bounds.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, with a particular fondness for the Jersey shore, the company of beloved pets, and the warmth of her family’s embrace. Irene’s sense of humor was truly unparalleled, capable of brightening even the darkest of days. Her ability to connect with people was extraordinary, and she had an open-hearted generosity that left an enduring mark on all those fortunate enough to share in her life.

She was also remarkably quick witted. She was always ready with some witty response with her family and friends. Her and her sister Maxine were as close as ever. Being what some may call “Irish Twins”, they never once left each other’s side. They did everything together and would be each other’s rocks through good times and bad times.

Preceded in death by her father, John Meehan, as well as her sister Maxine Meehan; and uncles: Max and Frances (DeeDee) Klimkeight of Hoboken, New Jersey.

Irene is survived by her loving spouse, Tom Murphy, and daughters: Shannon Murphy and Jackie Murphy; grandson: Derek McLemore; granddaughters: Hailey and Aizlee McKinney; sister-in-law: Kathy Murphy; daughter in law: Katrina Walton; and nieces and nephews: Erin, Jessica, John, and Brian.

A celebration of Irene’s life and legacy took place on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Williams Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM to pay their respects, share their memories, and find solace in each other’s company.
