OBITUARY: Jack A. Hendley

Jack A. Hendley, age 91, a lifelong resident of Maury County, Tennessee, departed his earthly home and entered his heavenly home on May 26, 2024.

Born on November 10, 1932, in the Athendale Community of Maury County, Jack was the son of the late Mahon Hendley and the late Grace Morris Hendley.

He was a 1950 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville before serving his country in the United States Navy. After his service in the military, he worked at Dupont for twenty years and later at Union Carbide for twelve years.

Known throughout Maury County for his legendary Memorial Day and Labor Day parties, Woodstock had nothing on him! Everyone was a rockstar.

Very proud of his Irish heritage, every March 17th he tried to turn Knob Creek green.

An avid reader and history buff, Jack enjoyed watching Jeopardy and games shows in his later years.

He was an avid and enthusiastic University of Tennessee Vols fan. When he was able, he found solace in sitting on banks of Knob Creek with one of his canine buddies, Smoky or Rocky Top, reminiscing times with family.

He is survived by his sons, Van Hendley of San Diego, CA, Kevin Hendley of Rochester, MN, Keith Hendley of Rochester, MN, five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, M.W., Morris, Kenneth, and Joe Hendley, and sisters, Mary Potts and Faye Martin.

Per Mr. Hendley’s wishes, there will be no service, and he wants everyone to know, “I did it My Way.”

A very special thank you is extended to Hospice Compassus for their care and compassion for Jack in the final chapter of his life.

Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
