Jacob “Jake” Eldridge Travis passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, in Columbia, Tennessee, he was 70 years old.

Jake was born on June 11, 1952, to the late Eldridge Lee Travis, Jr. and Alma Louise West Travis in Hampshire, Tennessee.

The Travis family name is a staple of Hampshire. A legacy that dates back to the pre-Civil war era and holds its regard and esteem through generations.

Jake was a man of many hats and talents. He was especially gifted in his skills as a stone mason. His craftsmanship is admired at the Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville, Polk Memorial Gardens, and The Riverwalk in Columbia, Tennessee. Not only locally, but Jake’s work is also praised across Kentucky, Alabama, and a small Caribbean island. He took great pride in what he could create with his two hands.

There’s a special goldmine that was established in Hampshire named after a very special man, “Jake” Mart. The infamous “Jake Mart” became a cornerstone for community fellowship. Where all Hampshire natives came to gather for laughs, unique goods, and memories. The legend behind “Jake Mart” started with Jake’s love for collecting. He was an avid yard sale shopper that grew a little larger than expected, and with great ambition led to the grand opening of “Jake Mart”. You can find your go-to essentials, as well one of the kind items, like Elvis Hair, a hang glider, and even certified dinosaur terrestrial matter, regardless of what your needs are you’ll always be greeted with a smile. A man of generosity, not only with his time but his efforts, Jake would go out of his way to help others.

Above all else, Jake treasured his family. Always cherished the times he spent with his grandchildren, showing them the art of fishing and sharing funny stories. He will be deeply missed by all the lives he touched.

In addition to his parents, Jake is preceded in death by his brother, Ricky Travis.
