James Cummins Couch, Jr., 84, retired employee of Middle Tennessee Bank and resident of Columbia, died Monday, November 14, 2022 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Born May 12, 1938 in Davidson County, he was the son of the late James Cummins Couch, Sr. and the late Rebecca Louise Wallace Couch.
He was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy, Vanderbilt University, and served in the United States Army, where he retired as Colonel. Mr. Couch was very active with the American Red Cross, Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and District Governor, an Eagle Scott, and former County Commissioner. Mr. Couch was a member of Hampshire Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, whom he married June 27, 1964, Kate Anderson Couch of Columbia; children, Kathie Couch (Rich) Prybilla of Mt. Juliet; Dr. James Cummins (Mary) Couch, III of Columbia; Montie (Reneѐ) Couch of Hampshire; Wally Couch of Sawdust; Edwin Couch of Columbia; Chris (Jayda) Couch of Palmer; sisters, Ginger Harlan of Columbia; Matilda (Sammy) Beaird of Mt. Pleasant; seventeen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wally Couch.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rock Jaggers officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Churchyard with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.
