James Donald Vandiver, 78, retired Maintenance Tech for Union Carbide, died Friday, October 14, 2022 at his residence in Columbia.

Born February 19, 1944 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Hershel Vandiver and the late Elsie Rebecca Neeley Vandiver.

Mr. Vandiver served in the National Guard. He was an avid firearm enthusiast and patriot of the United States. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Vandiver was a member of Thompson Station Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, whom he married, on April 8, 1966, Mary Jane Street Vandiver of Columbia; son, Donald “Donnie” Vandiver, Jr. of Columbia; daughter, Kim (Chris) Neal of Spring Hill; grandchildren, Taylor Neal (Tyler Brown) of Spring Hill; Erin (Bailey) Davenport of Spring Hill; John Logan Neal (Lakelin Prentice) of Martin; Ambriele Lynn Vandiver (Austin Neal) of Lebanon; great-grandchildren, Lillian Clare Neal, Baker Timothy Davenport; nieces, Kathy Vandiver of Bethpage; and Lisa (Joel) Roberts of Williamsport.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Leslie Dale Vandiver, and brother, William Bill Vandiver.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Mike Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Bailey Davenport, Cammie Neal, Tyler Brown, Tim Russell, Dodd Church, Theodore Durham, and Riley Mootz. Honorary pallbearers include Tony Brown, Riley Mootz, Randy Street, Ricky Street, Wayne Street, Chris Neal, Logan Neal, and members of the 473rd Army National Guard.
