Mr. Jon Eric Yates, Sr., age 78, husband of Billy Yates, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, at his residence.
Jon was born July 24, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky and was the son the late Cecil Kenneth Yates and the late Lillian Alvina Erickson Yates.
He married the love of his life, Billy Ruth Verinsky on May 28, 1964, and together they had four children. He worked as a carpenter and house builder for many years. He was a member of First Family Baptist Church. A true outdoorsman, Jon loved hunting and fishing. Above all, he loved his family and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Along with his wife he is survived by his children, Lorie (Steve) Chavez of Riverside, CA, Malynda Yates of Columbia, TN, Jon (Kelly) Yates, Jr. of OH, Jason (Robynn) Yates of Columbia, TN, and; sisters, Janet Joliff and JoAnn Stoff, both of CA; brother-in-law, David Verinsky; sister-in-law, Karen Woods; grandchildren, Kristen Sheldon, Mike Sheldon, Kimberly Serrato, Tommy Serrato, Truman Chavez, Zachary Yates, Zander Yates, Brookenah Yates, Ethan Yates, Landen Yates, and Jameson Yates; great-grandchildren, Hailey Perkins, Vann Sheldon, Jace Sheldon, Colton Serrato, Leah Serrato, and Evelyn Serrato; great-great-grandchild, Casper Jay Amezcua; and very special friend, Michael Hollinsworth.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Yates.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 19th at 3:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Vassar officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens, located adjacent to the funeral home. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 1:00 PM until the 3:00 PM service hour.
Pallbearers will be Jon Yates, Jr., Jason Yates, Michael Hollinsworth, Ethan Yates, Landen Yates, Jameson Yates, Zach Yates, Zander Yates, and Steve Chavez. Honorary pallbearers will be Vann Sheldon, Jace Sheldon, and Truman Chavez.
