Mr. Lanny Anderson, age 73, a resident of Columbia, departed this life on August 23, 2023, at NHC Columbia TN.
Lanny was born on June 14, 1950, to the late Carrie Lizzie Stovall-Anderson.
He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. James C. Wray. Later, he united with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the guidance of Rev. Alvin Anderson Sr. Lanny continued to be a very active member, using all of his God giving Gifts.
Lanny was blessed with a gift to sing. He began singing at Mt. Vernon M.B. Church in the Youth and Senior Choirs. Lanny was a lead singer in various gospel groups and community choirs. He was one of the founding members of the Gospel Quartet “The Willing Travelers.”
He was a graduate of Carver Smith High School class of 1968 where he also played bass drum in the high school band. Lanny was a man of many talents. He was a well-known licensed plumber, carpenter, and electrician.
His greatest joy was reminiscing of his youth growing up in the Happy Hollow Community. He greeted everyone with “Man What’s Happening” in his raspy voice with a joke or a story to follow. Lanny loved his family.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Debra J. Gaines, Audrey A. Fulton, and Timothy Anderson.
He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Yvonne Marie, and Doreatha, Brothers, Douglas (Eleanor), Rev. Alvin (Judy), Rev. Kenny (Annette), Sid (Walena), and Brad Anderson. Sister, Minister Joyce (Thomas) Jones, Sister-in-law, Chundra D. Anderson, extended family Roger (Francine) Smith and Johnnie “Peaches’ (John) Nowlin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 29th at 11:00 am at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Alvin Anderson Sr. officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 28th from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. https://www.tnfunerals.com
