Larry Simpson Baxter, Sr. passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born to the late Jesse Baxter and Ava Mae Love, Larry was raised in the Hampshire community, where he developed a deep admiration for God’s creation from a young age. He found joy in basking in the sun and marveling at the wonders of the natural world, with a persistent determination to care for the gifts the Lord bestowed.
Larry was a devout man, steadfast in his faith, and relied on the strength of the Lord to overcome life’s challenges. He was blessed with a loving wife and family, whom he cherished deeply. Known for his natural storytelling abilities, Larry leaves behind a treasure trove of stories, filled with depth and detail, which will allow his family to learn the true inner workings of such an incredible man.
His memory will be forever cherished by his children: Shelly (Jerry) Myers, Larry Baxter, Jr., and Tina (John) Chorba; eight grandchildren; and his siblings: Jessie Mai McKinney, Linda Webb, Ronnie Baxter, and Jimmy Baxter. He is also remembered fondly by several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 57 years, Lois Virginia Baxter, and his daughter, Kelly Ann Baxter. His legacy of love, faith, and storytelling will continue to inspire and guide those who knew and loved him.
The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral service will commence at 2:00 PM with Pastor Henry Mobley, Pastor Vince Dominguez, and Rev. Luke Baxter speaking. The family will gather at Baxter Mountain to lay Mr. Larry to rest next to his wife.
Those honored as pallbearers are Dustin Cole, Luke Baxter, Joseph Chorba, Jeremy Spivey, Brian Spivey, John Mark Webb, and Lance Malcolm. Honorary pallbearers are the brothers and sisters of Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ and former employees of Lindsey Propane.
