Leo Hinson, age 79, of Hohenwald, Tennessee, passed away on July 29, 2026, in the same community where he was born on April 3, 1947.
He was the son of the late Owen and Mary Peery Hinson and lived his entire life with the values of hard work, kindness, and faith that were instilled in him from an early age. Leo was a loving and friendly man who was known throughout his life for his generous spirit and his willingness to help others whenever he could. Those who knew him will remember his warm smile, his easygoing nature, and the way he made others feel welcome and cared for.
Leo was a devoted husband to the late Lynn Treadwell Hinson, who preceded him in death in 2020. Their life together was marked by love, companionship, and the blessing of family. He was a proud father to his daughter, Shannon Schmittou and her husband Craig, and he cherished the close bond they shared. Leo also loved his grandchildren, Peyton Evans and her husband Shaun, Parker Schmittou, and Parker’s girlfriend Allison Lovett. His great-grandchildren, Owen, Jasper, and Riley, brought him great joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Earl Hinson and Randy Hinson, whom he loved dearly.
Leo worked as a self-employed mechanic and took great pride in his ability to fix cars and help people keep their vehicles running. He was a hardworking man who believed in doing a job right and in treating people fairly. Many in the community came to know him not only for his skill with automobiles, but also for his habit of helping others, often without charging them. His quiet generosity left a lasting impression on countless lives. He found satisfaction in honest work and in using his talents to serve those around him.
Outside of work, Leo enjoyed working on cars and spending time on jigsaw puzzles. He was also a college football fan and enjoyed following the game. These simple pleasures reflected the steady and contented life he led. He appreciated the small things, valued time with family, and found happiness in being useful to others.
Leo was a long-time member of Indian Creek Church of Christ, where he found fellowship and strength in his faith. His church family meant a great deal to him, and his presence was a familiar and comforting one to many. He lived his faith through his actions, showing compassion, patience, and a servant’s heart in everyday life. The example he set will continue to be remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 31, 2026, at Lewis County Memorial Gardens beginning at 2:00 pm with Brother Bill Webb and Brother Jeff Durham officiating. https://www.adairfuneralservices.com
