Mable M. Potts Goodwin, age 85, resident of Columbia passed away on April 24, 2023, at NHC of Columbia.
Mable was born on August 25, 1937, in Maury County. She was the daughter of the late Horace Potts and the late Icie Byrd Potts.
On December 23, 1955, she married Clyde Thomas Goodwin who preceded her in death on March 27, 1996.
Mable was a life-long member of the Elmore Church of the Nazarene in Primm Springs, TN. After moving to Columbia, she attended Pleasant Heights Baptist Church.
For many years, she worked at Maury Manufacturing cutting the patterns for shirts. Later on, in the fall of some years, she and an all-woman crew would strip tobacco for many of the area tobacco farmers.
She enjoyed being a housewife, working in the yard and vegetable garden and growing flowers. Mable was well known for her famous strawberry cakes. They were always requested by many, at all functions.
Mable was very fortunate and blessed to have the love of two special friends in her lifetime, Billy Joe Foust, her long-time companion, and Janice (Jimmy) Allen, her caregiver, whom she considered to be a dear sister.
Survivors included her daughter: Bonnie (Tommy) Burgess of Columbia; grandchildren: Hannah Berman of Columbia, Meredith (Justin) Asbury of Woodbury; great-grandchildren: Lilly M. Alderson, Jordyn T. Berman, and Luci M. Asbury; sisters: Ivie Parr, Barbara Cole, and Beatrice Duvall, all of Columbia; brother: Larry Potts of Culleoka; brother-in-law: Leslie Malugin; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Wesley Potts, Buster Potts, G.C. Potts, Eva Mae Potts, Ruby Malugin, Mary Alice Jones, and infant siblings: Patricia Potts, Jack and Jill Potts.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Williams Funeral Home with long-time friend and pastor, Ronnie Johnson officiating. The visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Goodwin’s family will serve as pallbearers. Graveside service will be at 10 AM on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Potts Cemetery in Santa Fe, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made for the maintenance and upkeep of the Potts Cemetery Fund in care of Dana Walters, Treasurer, 1983 Knob Creek Rd, Columbia, TN.
