Marie Anderson Filson born April 5, 1935 to John and Mary Kathleen Pogue Anderson passed away at Maury Regional Medical Center Wednesday, July 13, 2022.
Marie was a loving and dedicated daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her heart reached beyond bloodlines to many that became family. People grew to love her very quickly and she did the same with them. She was a devoted wife to Captain Billy Joe Filson of Columbia, Tennessee and a diligent caregiver to him and his mother, Jennie Filson, in their later years. Her children were very aware of her love and pride in them.
She was a wonderful supporter of the Columbia Fire Department that she and Billy raised their family to admire so much as well. She was “Nanny” and “Aunt Marie” to many of her cherished family and others. Marie was a member of Graymere Church of Christ.
In former years, she enjoyed spending time gardening, cooking, quilting and other textile crafts, caring for her grandchildren, attending church, participating in the Red Hat Society, working with her niece Kim Baxter Johnston, and social gatherings with friends.
In her later years, she enjoyed spending quality time with friends and family in person and through phone calls, her Sunday visits with her grandson, reading her Bible, watching her ‘stories’, riding around the area with Angel Johnson, spending time with Angel and her dear friend Pauline, and spoiling her great-grandson, ‘Nate’ Nathaniel Mabry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Filson; children, Terry Wayne Filson, Pamela Faye Boshers, siblings, James “Bubby” Anderson, Alma Grimmett, Sammy Anderson, Charlie Anderson, Martha Barker, Beulah Marshall, and Katherine “Kay” Anderson Baxter.
Marie is survived by her grandchildren, Jeremy (Misty) Filson, Bryan Filson, Ashley Marie Boshers (Greg) Mabry, Eric (Jenna) Boshers; step-grandchild, Juanita Potts; great-grandchildren, Chase Filson Jewel, Sam Filson Jewel, Nathaniel Mabry, Layne Sophia Boshers; step-great-grandchildren, Anthony (Kimmy) Bardwell, Derek Price, Brayden Price, Annalee Price; step-great-great grandchildren Addison Bardwell, Beau Bardwell; sisters Sue Voss; daughter-in-law, Penny Filson; son-in-law, Mark (Ruth) Boshers; many beloved nieces and nephews; god-son Mark Filson; god-grandsons, Zack Filson, Corbin Filson
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jermey Butts officiating and special speakers Ty Cobb and Bro. Steve Swango. A private family graveside service will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday, July 30 from 12:30 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Filson, Bryan Filson, Eric Boshers, Mark Boshers, Greg Mabry, Rip Baxter III, Brian George, Mark Filson, Billy Manier, Terry Potts, and Larry Duke.
