Martha Jane “Aunt Martha” Whiteside, 83, retired secretary for Maury County Veterinarian, died Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at her residence in Columbia.

Born May 29, 1939 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late William James Whiteside and the late Juanita Jackson Whiteside.

She was the Valedictorian of the 1957 class of Hampshire High School. Martha loved baseball, basketball, cooking, quilting, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She was a member of Cathey’s Creek Church of Christ.

Survivors include her siblings, Sam (Nina) Whiteside of Hampshire; Mary (Tex) Hopkins of Chapel Hill; Jamie (John) Langham of Daphne, Alabama; nieces and nephews, Janet Langham, Kathryn DeLamar, Susan Ling, Mary Langham, Dionne Manire, Terry Whiteside, Paul Whiteside, Richard Hopkins, James Hopkins; special niece, Olivia Whiteside; special great nephew; Cooper Malugin, who spent countless hours helping with her care through her illness, and special friends, Bobby Lee Runions, Charro Ortiz, Polly Cooper, and Kari Reeves.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ella Ann Whiteside; and nephew, Robert Hopkins.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will follow in Worley Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Terry Whiteside, Paul Whiteside, Weston Whiteside, Kirk Whiteside, Bobby Lee Runions, Cooper Malugin, Kenny Manire, Chance McCrary, and Charro Ortiz. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Striker Reddy, Dr. Barbara Murphy, Dr. Belinda Bart, Gene and Kathy Woodard, John and Debra Steele, Kim Brooks, Brent Barker, Mike Burns, Jean Acton, Cindy Hester, Ellen Davis, Sam Holden, Mike Bryan, Kim Meek, Patti Hollingsworth, and Pam and Phillip McDonald.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Ben Gardener and the staff of Hospice Compassus.

The family suggests memorials to Cathey’s Creek Church of Christ Building Fund, 4418 Stephenson Schoolhouse Road, Hampshire, TN 38461.
