Martha Johnson Garland, age 66, a resident of Summertown, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026 at her residence. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday March 2, 2026 at Heritage Funeral Home at 2:30PM, with Brandon Cochran officiating. A visitation will also be held on Monday from 1:30-2:30 PM.
Martha was born on August 27, 1959, in Odessa, Texas to the late Tory Johnson and the late Sarah Horton. Martha married her best friend and love of her life John Garland and together they celebrated forty-six years of marriage. John and Martha knew each other for fifty-six years, meeting in grade school. She was proud of her Native American heritage and was a member of the Cherokee Tribe. Skilled with her hands she enjoyed sewing and drawing, gardening, cooking, known for her blackberry jam and salsa, listening to folk music, and a love for all animals. She loved her family deeply and spending time with them brought her a great amount of joy. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Brian Alexander (Melanie) Garland, John Earnest Garland (Amber), grandchildren, Ashlyn Garland, Danielle Richardson, Morgan Garland, Geneva Garland, Jansen Garland, Jack (Leann) Finch, Daryn Buchannan, great grandchild, Carter Davis, aunts, Mary Page, Anna Whitson, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
