Mary Sue Duberry Byrd

Mrs. Mary Sue Duberry Byrd, 84, a resident of Rolling Fields Circle, died Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at her residence.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Byrd will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Graymere Church of Christ with Austin Simmons and Landry Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born September 15, 1937 in Chester County, she was the daughter of the late William Carter Duberry, Sr., and the late Amy Smith Allen.

She was a graduate of Haylong High School Class of 1955. On November 26, 1954 she married Leonard Washington “LW” Byrd who preceded her in death in September 2003. Mrs. Byrd was an RN for 26 years at Maury County Hospital later known as Maury Regional Hospital, spending most of her time in the same day surgery. She was a long time faithful member of Sandy Hook Church of Christ and later after moving to Columbia, worshipped with the Graymere Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughters, Susan Byrd Rector and Karen Byrd (Ricky) Thompson; sister, Johnie Webb; grandchildren, Amber (Tim) Bamman, Tara (Austin) Simmons, Evan (Amanda) Rector and Alex (Emily) Rector; great-grandchildren, Landry Simmons, Lochlan Simmons, Lenox Simmons, Leiley Owens-Bamman, Lilah Owens-Bamman, Allie Bamman, Cori Rector, Lucah Rector, Warren Rector, and Porter Rector; several special nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Amy Lee Byrd; son-in-law, Laray Rector; and siblings William Carter Duberry, Jr., Geneva Stimson, and Jerry Duberry.

Pallbearers will be Evan Rector, Alex Rector, Landry Simmons, Tim Bamman, Austin Simmons, and Thomas Williams.
