Melva Anita Morris, age 84, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on April 13, 1942, at the Boyce Clinic in Hohenwald to the late John Henry Barnes and Mamie Duren Porter Barnes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Earl Morris; her daughter, Darlene Shoemaker; her grandson, Nathaniel Morris; her son-in-law, Bluford Warren; and her siblings, Richard Barnes, James William Barnes, Thomas Barnes, Ida Mae Acres, Lonnis Barnes, Neoma Whitehead, David Barnes, Carolyn Miller, and Erma “Tootie” Barnes.
She is survived by her loving children, Karen E. Warren, William Walter (Shelia) Morris, and James Lynn (Angie) Morris; her cherished grandchildren, Jonathon “Bub” (Charlotte) Warren, Valerie Warren, Christie Michelle Peery, Crystal (Michael) Odom, Christopher (Felicia) Shoemaker, Elizabeth Harrington, Rachel (DJ) Walker, William (Kelly) Morris, and Jayme (Dexter) Smith; and 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Melva loved shopping and was always on the lookout for a good sale, especially when it came to clothes and shoes, and not only for herself, but for others too. She had a beautiful love for music, particularly gospel and bluegrass gospel, and enjoyed singing praises to the Lord. Her faith and church family were an important part of her life. She also enjoyed traveling, flowers, watching the birds outside her window, and celebrating Christmas. The holiday season held a special place in her heart because it brought her family together, creating memories she treasured above all else.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8th at 1:00 p.m. with Terry Curtis officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until the service at McDonald Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Lewis County Memorial Gardens.
