Norma Jane Hughes, age 87, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, at her residence.

Born on October 20, 1935, in Maury County, Norma was the daughter of the late Norman Brooks and the late Herbert & Addie Garner Brooks Alexander.

She was a member of Philippi Church of Christ. She worked at King’s Daughters Hospital in Columbia for a year before going to work at Maury Regional Medical Center where she was as a kind, caring, and dedicated nurse for sixty years. During her last ten years there, her kind heart led her to sitting one on one with troubled patients.

After she retired, she went on to volunteer at Maury Regional until the Covid Pandemic made it difficult. She loved to dance especially to country music and would never shy away from time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.

She is survived by her children, Jan (Steve) Webb of Columbia and Carla Hughes of Columbia, grandchildren, Justin (Kelsey) Webb, Jesse Hughes, Jenni Atkins, Lacey Webb, and her father Larry Webb, and great-grandchildren, Kieley Webb, Houston Hughes, Addie Atkins, Aubree Atkins, and Ellie Dyer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Hughes, son, Terry Hughes, sister, Juanita Boshers, and brother, Ray Alexander.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Josh Hardin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Paul Hughes, Tommy Smith, Jon Meade, Billy Rochelle, Randy Ervin, and David Thomason. Honorary Pallbearers will include Kalista Ervin, Paulette Anderson, Mary Ruth Horton, Barbara Lewis, and Gail Baker.
