Patty Kennemur Choate, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the age of 89, in Hohenwald, Tennessee.
Born on November 4, 1935, in Bear Creek, Alabama, Patty lived a life rich in family, community service, and unwavering kindness.
Patty was the cherished daughter of the late Flemy Dale and Autie Lurtie Kennemur. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Ralph Choate, and her beloved children, Tillman, Anthony, and Perry Choate.
Her memory continues through her loving children, Cynthia Gail Baxter (Mike) and Melinda Stone (Lonnie), and her daughter-in-law, Lisa Choate. Patty’s memory will also be treasured by her brother, Joel Kennemur (Barbara), and sister-in-laws, Patty and Peggy.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Dale and Jack Kennemur.
Her spirit lives on in the hearts of her grandchildren, Barry Baxter (Kara), Tabriya McDougal (Chris), Jeremy Choate (Jacy), Susane Andrews (Randy), Marc Stone (Anna), Matt Kennedy (Valerie), Brett Kennedy (Michelle), CJ Mashburn (Joey), Tony McFly (Lucas), and Josh Choate. Patty was a proud great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, leaving behind a host of great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Patty’s professional life was marked by her dedication to the enrichment of her community. She served as a librarian at the Lewis County Public Library, where she fostered a love for reading and knowledge in countless individuals. Her commitment to preserving history was evident through her involvement with the Historical Society of Hohenwald, where she was honored with the History and Heritage Award in 2022. Patty also actively participated in the local Chamber of Commerce, contributing to the growth of the area she called home.
Patty grew up in the Baptist Church, attending church as a child in Hanceville, Alabama and Grandview Baptist Church in Nashville as a young married adult. She raised her young family at Grandview teaching Sunday School and GA’s and Discipleship Training.
Her faith was important to her. After the family moved to Hohenwald in the 1970’s she and her family moved their membership to the community church in Oak Grove, Hohenwald where she lived her values of love and service. She spent many a morning of her retirement on her front porch with her Bible in her lap. Her comfort in God’s word continued during her residence at the nursing home, where the staff often found her reading her Bible in her room.
Patty’s interests were a reflection of her nurturing soul. She was an avid reader, always with a book in hand. Quilting was another of her passions, creating beautiful works of art that were as generous and comforting as she was. Her garden was a testament to her patience and care, blooming with life and color that mirrored her vibrant spirit. Above all, Patty cherished spending time with her family, creating memories that will be held dear for generations to come.
Visitation with family and friends will be held in the chapel of Adair Funeral & Cremation Services on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 9:00 am until time of service of 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hohenwald, TN. https://www.adairfuneralservices.com
