Ramona Sue Smith, age 85, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Maury Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 9, 1938, in Cayce, Kentucky, Ramona was the daughter of the late John James Lusk and the late Lillian Virginia Walker Lusk.

She previously worked as a beautician, a skill she used to color and cut her own hair until recently. Ramona had a passion for cooking, especially on the towboat where she met her beloved husband, Smitty. She was a talented seamstress who made clothes for her grandchildren when they were young and was active in the Sew N Sew group. Ramona loved traveling with her dear friends James and Nancy Walker, was actively involved in the Silver Sneakers, and had a keen eye for shopping, always finding the best deals.

Ramona cherished her lunch dates with her girlfriends, basking in the sunshine from her garage, watching Fox News every day from her spot at the kitchen counter, and tending to her plants and flowers. She volunteered at Maury Regional Medical Center for several years and was a longtime member of Riverside United Methodist Church. Above all, she was proud of her family, and loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a very special place in her heart for her beloved great-granddaughter and “favorite person,” Mya.

She is survived by her son, Ted Jennings of Columbia, Tennessee, grandchildren, Tessa Jennings (John) Ashworth of Columbia, Tennessee, Tyson (Preslie Baker) Jennings of Columbia, Tennessee, Tately Jennings (Zack) Gray of Columbia, Tennessee, great grandchildren, Mya Faith Ashworth, Hunter Wayne Ashworth, Logan Tate Ashworth, Baker Raye “Birdie” Jennings, Wyatt Brindley, London Brindley, and daughter in law, Marnie Brindley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald “Smitty” Smith, son, Randy Brindley, and grandson, Johnny Brindley.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Lyndall Propst officiating. A visitation will also be held on Sunday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. https://www.tnfunerals.com

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to her caregiver, Lynn Kirk, the staff of NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center, and the doctors, nurses and staff on the first floor at Maury Regional Medical Center for their exceptional care for her during this difficult time.
