Sarah Hanson Anderson, 82, long-time resident of Columbia, died Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Born April 25, 1940 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Hazel Padgett Hanson and the late Elaine Barron Hanson.

Mrs. Anderson retired from General Electric, where she was the first hourly employee hired. She was a former Maury County Commissioner and was the first Chair-woman during that time.

After retirement, she was a substitute teacher for Columbia Academy and the Maury County School System. Mrs. Anderson was one of the original members and founder of the West 6th Street Historical District.

She will be remembered as a wonderful hostess and a great cook. Those who were lucky enough to sit at her table never left hungry!

She and her husband, Raymond of 65 years, especially enjoyed decorating for Christmas and entertaining during the holidays. She was a member of Highland Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Anderson of Columbia; children, Kim Anderson (Tim) Henderson, Leigh Anderson (Jeff) Whitfield; granddaughter, Becky Henderson (Greg) Loveless; great-grandson, Charlie Loveless; brother, Fred (Kathleen) Hanson; and sister-in-law, Oneida Hanson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Judith Langsdon Gregory; and brothers, James P. Hanson and William “Larry” Hanson.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Ted Burleson officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Private family burial will be held in Polk Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Greg Loveless, Jeff Whitefield, Art Hanson, Danny Staggs, Charles Buford, Eddie Hickman, Sean McLeod, and Tony Hie.
