Sharon Diane Sisk Burgess

Diane or Di as she was known, was born Sharon Diane Sisk on October 6, 1959 in Columbia, the first child, and daughter of Ken and Betty Roan Sisk. She transitioned to her eternal home, where streets are paved in gold, on January 5, 2022.

Diane began her career in nursing in the late ’70s, graduating from CSCC Nursing Program in 1981. During her years of nursing, she worked in Nashville, Cookeville, Sparta, and Columbia, with her greatest joy and passion of her career, delivering babies at Maury Regional in Labor and Delivery. Due to health conditions, she had to leave the profession that she loved, took pride in, and observed the miracles of birthin’ babies.

Diane married Doug Burgess on September 5th, 1981. The family began growing with Kristy Leigh in 1982, Jennifer Arlana in 1983, and Daniel Warren in 1987. She enjoyed being a mother, momma, or Marmee as the girls would come to call her. She was always a supporter of the kids from schoolwork and sports to scouting. She loved and adored being Nana to her grandchildren, Tyler and Zoey Gagnier, Samuel and Henry Norris, Cheyenne Burgess, and Maddie Nicastro.

She showed her love to family and friends through the actions of her hands. She enjoyed canning summer fruits and vegetables, then sharing with whoever dropped by. Her crafting interests included cooking, sewing, crocheting, jewelry making along with other things. She cherished using the talents of her hands for children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

Diane was proceeded by grandparents, her mother, Betty Roan Sisk, her father-in-law, Elbert R Burgess.

She’s survived by her husband, Doug Burgess, her daughters and their families, Kristy and Bradley Norris along with Samuel and Henry; and Jennifer and Lawrence Nicastro along with Tyler, Zoey, and Madeline. Her son and his family, Daniel and Bailey Burgess and Cheyenne. In addition, she’s survived by her father, Ken Sisk, and her sisters Sandy Fisher, Pat Hunter, and many adoring nieces and nephews from both families.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Paul Lucas and Bradley Norris officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 P.M – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request memorials in her name to Sweetwater Church, P.O. Box 223, Culleoka, TN 38451; Pregnancy Center of Middle Tennessee, 704 Dunnington St, Columbia, TN 38401 or Psalms 139 Project via https://psalm139project.org/.
