Shirley Ann Fitzgerald Stanfill, age 86, a resident of Chapel Hill, formerly of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at her residence.
Born on September 11, 1938, in Maury County, Shirley was the daughter of the late Calvin and Rebecca Skinner Fitzgerald.
She married Ernest Stanfill on July 25, 1954, and they shared nearly 69 years together before his passing on May 16, 2023. Besides her work as a homemaker, Shirley had a passion for antiques and yard sales, and was known for her generous spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her love for her family was unwavering, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Shirley attended Destiny Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Stanfill (James) Reeves of Chapel Hill, son, William (Misty Sullivan) Stanfill of Columbia, brother, Roger Fitzgerald of Columbia, grandchildren, Darrell (Holly) Hinton, Brandy (James) Phelps, Kelly (Joey) Gillespie, Tres (Dana) Reeves, Tara Stanfill, Robby Love, Kassey Stanfill, Christy (Adam) Stapleton, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Wesley Stanfill, daughter, Patricia Hinton, grandson, Wesley “Bubba” Stanfill, Jr., and siblings, Jean Ethridge, Elaine McGee, Estelle Wyatt, Reba Parker, and Calvin Fitzgerald.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Morgan officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Hardison Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Thursday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Those serving as pallbearers will be Trevor Phelps, Dewey Poteete, Darrell Hinton, Joey Gillespie, James Phelps, and Walker Harris.
