Mr. Thomas Edward Downey of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022, he was 56 years old.
He was born March 27, 1965, to Elizabeth (nee) Binkowski and the late William Jerome Downey Jr.
After completing high school, Tom enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he served for four years before being honorably discharged. He then attended Northern Illinois University and graduated with a degree in Computer Science.
While working as an IT consultant, he met his future wife, Mary. They enjoyed their married life spending many happy years traveling the world where Tom was able to apply his love of photography with storytelling while indulging Mary in her love of culinary exploration. He enjoyed golfing, especially with his brother Ken and close friends John and Matt, as well as gardening (always ensuring his lawn was striped). Tom was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, did community volunteer work, and was also involved in many charitable endeavors.
Those left to cherish Thomas’ memory are his beloved wife of 23 years, Mary Downey; mother, Elizabeth Downey; brothers, William and Kenneth Downey; sister Karen Rogers.
Funeral Mass will be held April 9, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Saint Catherine Catholic Church, Columbia, TN with Father Dan Reehil officiating.
Burial/Inurnment will be held with military ceremony on April 11, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Nashville National Cemetery, Madison, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
