OBITUARY: William Carter Smith

48

William Carter Smith was born on July 9, 1953, in Franklin, Tennessee, to the late John and Nora Smith. He was a beloved father and brother. William peacefully departed this life on February 19, 2026.

He was educated in the public school system of Williamson County, where he ran track and developed an early interest in politics. During his youth, he participated in several political organizations.

William graduated from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. While in college, he became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He was a lifelong learner who continued his education beyond college by completing numerous courses and earning multiple certifications.

William accepted Christ at an early age at Lawrence Avenue Church of Christ, where he worshiped for many years. He was a deeply spiritual man whose faith guided his life. He later attended the Nashville School of Preaching at the Crieve Hall Church of Christ, where he studied for several years and received his Certificate of Biblical Studies. His dedication to studying God’s Word never wavered. The 40th Avenue Church of Christ later became his church home.

While attending Tennessee State University, William secured employment at the Ford Glass Plant, where he faithfully served for 34 years before retiring. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and certificates recognizing his outstanding service and commitment.

In his spare time, William enjoyed cooking, especially baking sweets. His love for preparing desserts earned him the affectionate nickname “Chef Boy.” He also enjoyed music, watching movies, and collecting Batman memorabilia.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving son, Bernard Smith (Kristi); a loving daughter, Ashley Smith; a devoted sister, Detoria Smith; along with many cousins, an uncle, a great-aunt, and a host of extended family members and friends.
