William Lee “Jack” Barron, 88, retired educator and a resident of Columbia, died Saturday, April 15, 2023 at his son’s residence in Manchester.
He was born August 6, 1934 in Decatur County, Tennessee to the late Christine Moody Borron and the late Eddie William Borron.
He graduated from Parsons High School and attended Bethel College and received his master’s degree in education from MTSU. He married Martha Fern Hickman on June 5, 1960 and she preceded him in death on August 23, 2022.
He was a long-time educator with the Maury County Board of Education having taught history for many years at Columbia Central High School and retired as assistant principal at Central High School.
After retirement, he enjoyed building bluebird houses and placing them all over Maury County Park and gifting them to friends and family. He was also an avid gardener that found great joy in providing an abundance of vegetables to his family and friends.
He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and First Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he had served as an Elder.
Survivors include his children, William Lee Barron II of Knoxville; Laura Barron (Jim) Neufeldt of Brentwood; Mark Hickman Barron of Manchester; two sisters, Jean (Bobby) Stewart and Mary Beecham; two brothers, Loyce (Joyce) Borron and Charles (Beth) Borron; four grandchildren, Maegan (Corey) Keller, Zoe Neufeldt (Sam McCarthy), William Mark Barron, and Audrey Barron; brother-in-law, Waymon (Helen) Hickman; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Miller and a brother, Eddie Ray Borron.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Barron and Rev. Chris Caldwell officiating. Burial at Polk Memorial Gardens. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.
