OBITUARY: Willie Mai Dawson Wrather


Willie Mai Dawson Wrather, 88, LPN for Maury County Hospital and resident of Columbia, died Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Born January 12, 1934 in Giles County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Lee Dawson and the late Clara Mai Jett Dawson.

Mrs. Wrather was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, where she was the organist for 30 years. She was an expert seamstress, enjoyed knitting, flowers, and coffee. A loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Wrather loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, whom she married May 23, 1952, Samuel Thomas “Sam” Wrather, Sr. of Columbia; sons, Samuel Thomas (Kathy) Wrather, Jr. of Florence, Alabama; Horace Lee (Shirley) Wrather of Columbia; Terry Wayne (Karen) Wrather of Columbia; Daniel Keith (Gina) Wrather of Columbia; grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Klinzing of Columbia; Shannon (Scott) Matthews of North Carolina; Benjamin (Kristin) Wrather of Columbia; Angela (Kevin) Rose of Columbia; Brian Wrather of Nashville; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Callie Brown of North Carolina; and cat, Honey.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Elva Lee Dawson Tucker; and brother, Marvin Lee Dawson Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Richard VanCleave officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Samuel Thomas Wrather Jr, Horace Lee Wrather, Terry Wayne Wrather, Daniel Keith Wrather, Benjamin Wrather, and Brian Wrather. Honorary pallbearers include members of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
