The Columbia Planning Commission approved plans to bring a Whataburger to Maury County on Wednesday, February 12.
Whataburger Restaurants, LLC, in collaboration with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., submitted the proposal to transform the 1.31-acre site at 115 S. James Campbell Blvd into a drive-thru restaurant featuring dual drive-thru lanes. The property, designated as Lot 2 within the Columbia Commons Subdivision, includes shared access and public utility easements, which impacted certain zoning requirements.
As part of the approval process, Whataburger made some adjustments to the building design to fit within city regulations while keeping the restaurant functional. These changes were necessary due to the layout of the property and the needs of the drive-thru and kitchen areas.
The approval of these alternative compliance measures paves the way for Whataburger’s arrival in Columbia, promising to bring the popular fast-food chain’s signature menu to local residents.
With these approvals in place, Whataburger is set to bring its popular menu to Columbia. Further details regarding construction timelines and an expected opening date have yet to be announced.
