Mary Louise Litton, 100, a longtime resident of the Carter’s Creek and Neapolis communities, passed peacefully at NHC-Maury Regional, Friday, September 15, 2023.
Born October 29, 1922 in the Greenbrier community of Williamson County, Louise was the daughter of the late Ben and Tennie Thompson Litton. Her sisters were Ruth, who died in infancy, and Lurline.
After graduating from Columbia Central High School in 1941, Louise attended Draughon’s Business College in Nashville, boarding in town with her aunt and uncle, a Nashville policeman. Louise worked for Feigenbaum & Stern, in the Exchange Building at the corner of Church Street and Printers Alley, for forty-one years, boarding in Nashville during the week and riding a Greyhound bus back and forth to Neapolis on the weekends.
Louise was a longtime member of the Neapolis United Methodist Church, and until her passing maintained an active interest in the church and in her community, always asking about neighbors’ lives and businesses being built.
Survivors include numerous friends and second cousins.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Earl Davis officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Greenbrier Cemetery in Williamson County. https://www.oakesandnichols.com
Active pallbearers will be Mike Butler, Kenneth Smith, Cary Blue, Donny Jackson, Tim Marlin, Tootie Marlin, and David Marlin. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Smith, Max Westmoreland, Ricky Daniels, Clyde Skelley, Bubba Logan, Richard Ebner, Jolene and George Jones.
Much appreciation and gratitude goes to the caretakers at NHC-Maury Regional which has been Louise’s home for the last three years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to Neapolis United Methodist Church, c/o Frances Smith 3149 Denning Lane, Spring Hill, TN 37174.
