OBITUARY: Robert Stephen “Steve” Porter

Dr. Robert Stephen “Steve” Porter was born on January 23, 1950, in Columbia, Missouri, and died on February 5, 2022, in Columbia, Tennessee. He was 72 years old.

Steve was raised in Paducah, Kentucky, Utica, Michigan, and Plymouth, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan where he received his Pharmacy Degree in 1974 and PharmD. Degree in 1976. He married Katy Rahmel Porter in 1974; they moved to various states where Steve’s job took them. These included Chapel Hill, NC (UNC), Greeneville, NC (East Caolina University), Newtown and Villanova, PA (Hahnemann), Goshen, NY (Lederle), Brentwood, TN (Therapeutic Antibodies and Integrated Healing Technologies), and Columbia, TN (Asgard Brewing Company).

Through the years, Steve traveled to and from China many times with his company Pharmacotherapy Consultants and MPI Pharmacological Research. In 2016, Steve and John opened the first brewery in Columbia, TN, Asgard Brewing Company. Steve loved his wife and son, extended family, and his ever-growing adopted Columbia, TN family. He also loved beer, cars, cats, Camp Michigania, and Hallmark movies. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn “Katy” Rahmel Porter, son, John Kyle Porter, sister in law, Mary Lou (Geoffrey) Pernicano, sister in law, Tonya Reichle Porter, brother in law, Michael Tuohey, mother in law, Marianne Rahmel, and nieces and nephews, Daniel Pernicano, Emma Pernicano, Amy Tuohey, Kathleen Tuohey, Brian (Christine) Tuohey, Joseph (Margaret) Tuohey, Annie Porter, and great-nieces, Madelyn, Mara Sue, and great-nephew, Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his father, William W. Porter, Sr., mother, Betty Glenn Porter, brothers, William W. Porter, Jr., and Timothy Cole Porter.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Brian Henderson officiating. A visitation will also be held on February 19th from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to your favorite charity in Steve’s name.
