Shawn “Chef Big Shake” Davis opened the first Big Shake’s location with his wife, Robin, in 2013 in Murfreesboro before moving to the Franklin area in 2014. Since then, success has been nothing short but prevalent for the Big Shake family. Big Shake’s is set to have a total of 5 locations by the end of 2021 with more locations set to open on the horizon. The latest upcoming locations will be in Maury County’s Columbia and the second will be relocating from Goodlettsville to Downtown Nashville.
Big Shake’s menu includes a variety of dishes that feature catfish, shrimp and you-guessed-it, Nashville Hot Chicken. When it comes to hot chicken you can order a hot chicken plate that includes your favorite style of chicken (from legs to tenders and everything inbetween) along with your preferred level of heat and a choice of side. Have your chicken served on its own, between 2 buns, in a taco or atop a fresh-made Belgian Waffle. Craving catfish? Try it on a platter with a delicious side or in between some bread for a satisfying sandwich. Come in for the Shrimp Burgers that started it all on ABC’s Shark Tank back in 2011. You can try Big Shake’s famous Shrimp Burgers in Southwestern Style (served with deep-fried jalapenos and housemade ghost-pepper mayo) or BBQ style (Tangy BBQ sauce and crispy fried onions) served with 2 sides.
Columbia Location
The Columbia addition to the Big Shake’s Hot Chicken family will be located at 822 South Main Street just off Columbia’s Town Square. The franchisees of this location, Belinda Corkern and Amy McGee, have been long-time customers of Big Shake’s in Franklin. In fact, Amy describes herself as being “completely hooked from the first bite”. Soon after she discovered her love of Big Shake’s, she brought her friend Belinda down to try it who also found herself soon having cravings for Big Shake’s hot chicken. This initial experience eventually led to Amy’s son accepting a job with Big Shake’s with a new desire to eventually open his own location. When the owners decided to start franchising, Amy’s son facilitated a meeting for her and Belinda to sit down with Mr. and Mrs. Big Shake. By the end of it, they decided they would partner up to bring a location to the community of Columbia. The opening date has yet to be announced but we will be following closely.
Nashville Location
The Downtown Nashville addition will be located at 421 11th Avenue North as it is relocated from its current Goodlettsville home. The owners informed me that having a location with a Nashville address is a dream come true. For a few years, they have wanted to have a location amidst the area that is the pulse of Middle Tennessee, downtown Nashville. When the opportunity recently presented itself they were over the moon with excitement. Within the next 30 days, Big Shake’s Nashville is expected to be serving the local community and tourists alike with its locally famous recipes.
I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. and Mrs. Big Shake themselves, Robin and Shawn. One definitive message I took away from our conversation is that the Big Shake family is all about Good Food, Good Music and Good Times. All these years later, their passion for their restaurants, food and staff has not diminished at all; in fact, it seems to have only grown. Robin herself lit up when discussing not only the growth of their business but also when talking about their dedicated employees and customer support that has enabled them to continually grow their dream of serving the food they are most passionate about.
