Starting January 13th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., the Tom J Hitch Parkway bridge across the Duck River will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for repairs. This closure, along with the Mt. Olivet bridge closure to buses, may impact school bus routes and car rider traffic. Schools that may be affected include:
- Riverside Elementary School (RHES)
- Cox Middle School (CMS)
- Spring Hill High School (SHHS)
- Columbia Central High School (CHS)
- Battle Creek High School (BCHS)
Important Details:
- Tom J Hitch Closure Location: Between Bear Creek Pike (Hwy 412) and Iron Bridge Road.
- Expected Duration: Until Summer 2025.
- Detour Route: Use Highway 31 through downtown Columbia.
Bus Riders: Expect a 5-10 minute grace period as drivers adjust to new routes for both closures.
Car Riders and Drivers: Plan for extra travel time when heading to schools or work, especially on the north side of the county.
